Desert Christian Middle Students Visit Equine Voices

On Thursday, March 14th middle school students from Desert Christian Middle School visited Equine Voices.  They toured the property, visiting with our rescued horses and learned their stories.  They also were of service to us, accomplishing their own mission during service week while learning about our mission of horse rescue and giving a "voice to the voiceless."

We truly enjoyed having you here, Ms. Foxworthy and students, and hope to see you again soon!

BLM offers cash to adopt wild horses and burros

From the American Wild Horse Campaign Website

March 20, 2019 PALOMINO VALLEY, Nev. (KOLO)

Off the Pyramid Highway you'll see the signs to the BLM Adoption Facility in Palomino Valley.  Hundreds of horses, geldings, mares, yearlings, and burros are held in pens waiting for adoption.  The BLM has held horse shows to underscore the versatility of these animals, and has plenty of success stories on how well-loved these animals are.  “We've had a Breyer horse that was a Mustang,” says Jason Lutterman a BLM spokesman.

“These horses have gone on to work for the border patrol, and for the U.S. Marine Corps,” he says.  In 2018, the BLM says, it rounded up more than 11,000 horses in the west.   Now they've come up with another incentive, $1,000 for each animal adopted.  “This is our way of trying to incentivize more people to give a horse a good home,” says Lutterman.

The cash would not be handed out immediately.   It will come in $500 increments within a year’s time.   Money the BLM hopes will be used for training or set-up costs.

“We don't like the idea,” says Deb Walker with the American Wild Horse Campaign.

Volunteer Spotlight

"A Healing Place"

Every week Equine Voices will feature our invaluable volunteers! It could be a picture, a poem, a story or a biography...whatever you choose to submit will be great!

So please, keep submitting material to and keep a lookout for you, our incredible volunteers!

Not only do the horses come here as rescues to be healed, but so do the volunteers and staff also seek and find solace in Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary.

It usually happens inadvertently, before you even realize it.  The sense of calm, of peace and healing settles over you as you get done the morning's chores.  Annie, a newer red shirt volunteer states, "Yes! This ranch has absolutely saved my life!" when asked if the horses and the her duties at the ranch have changed her life.  She isn't the only one I found changed as a result of their time here at Equine Voices.  In the coming weeks, I will continue to feature volunteers and staff about their experiences here at Equine Voices.  While helping the horses, we find we are helping ourselves as well.

If you want to share your story as well, please email me at or call the office at 520.398.2814.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
